World History of Golf - In 100 BC early forms of Golf trace back to the Roman game of Paganica in which participants used a bent stick to hit a stuffed leather ball.The origin of the modern game is usually traced to Scotland. In the 15th century Golf was played at the Paris Olympic games in 1900. Twenty two participants took part from four countries . In 1901 the first professional Golfers Association ( P G A ) is formed in the U.K.. In 1980 Metal Wood made of stainless steel were introduced. In 2003 The World Amateur Golf Council became the International Golf Federation. In 2016, Golf will be played at the Olympics in Rio De Janeiro for the time in 112 years.
Indian History of Golf - The story of India’s tryst with Golf started way back in 1829. The first Golf club, Royal Calcutta Golf Club ( RCGC) was established in Calcutta under British rule. India premiered a national level Golf championship in 1892. In 1955 a group of skilled Golf players in the country constituted the Indian Golf Union ( IGU ). The organisation become integral body solely responsible for the management and promotion of sports in the country. From 1958 golf tournaments started to be conducted alternately in Bombay, Calcutta and Delhi.
