World History of Handball - Handball as we know today developed in Northern Europe by the end of the 1800 B C. It was especially popular in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Germany. Denmark was the birthplace of Modern Handball. The rules of Handball were drawn by Danish gym teacher Holger Nielsen in 1898 and published in 1906. First international match played between Germany and Belgium in 1925. The International Amateur Handball Federation was founded in 1928 and today it has nearly 170 members countries. The international Handball Federation was formed in 1946. The first ever Handball game in an Olympic games for men was played in 1925 and for women in 1930.
Indian History of Handball - The game Handball was brought to India by Shri J S Chauhan of Haryana. He conducted two all India seminar at Haryana and at Rohtak in year 1971-72. Handball Federation of India was formed in 1972.
